For weeks, Minnesota has been at the center of rapidly unfolding immigration enforcement actions, including multiple shootings and large public protests. Throughout it all, Sahan Journal and MinnPost have remained on the ground, reporting in real time. Meet the visual storytellers


Aaron Nesheim is a photojournalist at Sahan Journal whose work has covered the police killings of George Floyd and Daunte Wright and the subsequent trials of Derek Chauvin and Kim Potter for The New York Times. His photography has also appeared in The Guardian, Grist, and Time Magazine. 
Ellen Schmidt joined MinnPost as a full-time visual journalist through the 2025 CatchLight Local Fellowship, in partnership with Report for America. Born-and-raised in Minnesota, she aims to visualize home, capture emotion and help people relate to one another.
