National Portrait Gallery’s Teen Portrait Competition

The National Portrait Gallery‘sTeen Portrait Competition is underway! The Teen Portrait Competition is timed with the complementary exhibition, “The Outwin 2025: American Portraiture Today” featuring a juried selection of 35 portraits by artists 18 and up from across the country.  

The Portrait Gallery’s Teen Museum Council invites students to submit original portrait photographs to the Teen Portrait Competition which runs parallel to the museum’s triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. Two grand-prize winners will have their work displayed in the museum near “The Outwin 2025: American Portraiture Today” exhibition. 

A jury including members of the Teen Museum Council will select one grand-prize winning photo from each of the two age groups (13–15 and 16–17 years old). Works will go on view in spring 2025. Visit the Portrait Gallery’s website for competition rules and requirements. 

Photos, along with the artist’s full name, grade level, zip code and artist age, should be submitted via e-mail as a jpeg attachment to 
NPG-TeenPortraitCompetition@si.edu 
 
The deadline for submissions is December 23.
