Coinciding with European Beer Month this October, Magnum photographers were invited by HEINEKEN to capture the atmosphere in local bars, pubs and restaurants in 11 countries. While each venue has its own rhythm and cultural nuance, their function remains the same: a space to uphold the ritual of bringing people together.

“It all felt like we were coming out of an abusive relationship to finally say: no, this is not normal,” writes Myriam Boulos in What’s Ours, her debut monograph published in 2023. Boulos’ personal framing of Lebanon’s 2019 revolution captures moments that are both delicate and arresting, bringing political realities into intimate focus.

“Tourism is the biggest industry in the world,” writes Martin Parr in his 1996 book Small World. “We queue up, we sun ourselves and spend cash on often quite useless souvenirs.” Parr exposes the myths and realities of global tourism with a satirical eye in a world of leisure seekers, carbon footprints, and what he calls “the yin and yang of tourism”.
